| I'm a Hurricane Katrina survivor!!
Alright, so today was my second day of PMS (... Pennington Medical
School, that is). LSU-New Orleans med school decided to temporarily
relocate at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge,
and now people are calling it PMS. THe campus is really nice... but I
hope to soon return to New Orleans in January. But I'm enjoying it here
in Baton Rouge so far. I'm staying in a spare bedroom of a fellow med
school classmate's house free of charge, so that's pretty awesome. I'm
very fortunate to have this situation versus staying on a cruise ship
that the school ordered from Finland that has really small rooms and is
docked kind of far away from the school... though that would definitely
be an interesting experience.
I've
been studying a lot, but not productively and not enough. I don't care
- I'm going to Hooter's tonight for Trivia Night! (A lot of fun.) THis
will be my second time. Hooters really makes me wish I went to grad
school in gender studies. The atmosphere is so depressing that I find
it highly entertaining. (The waitresses clad in some really skanky 80's
spandex outfits and tight shirts [the scrunchy socks and white hightops
gave me flashbacks to fitness guru Denise Austin] and the buff men who
like to drive their trucks and drink beer and eat buffalo wings [*cringes*]). I
love observing the gender differences there.
I can think of some great sociological studies that can be conducted at
Hooters.
By the way, everyone in my family is safe from Hurricane Katrina.
We only had like six trees fall over, but none surprisingly on the
house. Just one blocking the front entrance, one in the driveway,
one knocking over the neighbor's fence, and one even into our
pool. It's all good. We were very lucky... we had no
flooding even though our neighbors did. Also, no damage to my
apartment. Very lucky again - other people in the complex
got lots of leaks... and someone's car was totally smashed by a fallen
tree. Some of my relatives' houses are (or were) completely
underwater. Anyways, the whole hurricane experience was insane.
Life is still not normal... and it won't be normal for a long
time. My family and I evacuated to a small town called
Donaldsonville and live there for like 4 weeks. There were lots
of sugarcane fields and stores with strange names like "The Beef
People."
But life is good... in a twisted way.
hearts and stars foreva!

P.S. Thanks to all who expressed concerned for my family.

| Oh my goodnass! It's been an overwhelmingly exhilirating experience here on the west coast. Been to many sites. The cruise was amazing. Pictures to come soon! To get a sneak peek at some of the action, you can go to Jeanine's xanga... (edit) wait not yet... but she will be having a buttload of very entertaining pictures and videos.
I love Berkeley so much. I've decided that this is where I'll live in 4 years. Wow, I want to collapse from sensory overload. | | |
| why do so many southern girls look like clones?
| | |
| Wow, many apologies for not updating to all you faithful xangans...j/k who would be faithful to my sorrowful xanga?
Lots have happened -- I'm a college graduate! Bachelor's of Science in
Neuroscience with a Music minor.... med school this fall.
Saw the Decemberists on Wednesday... went to an awesome Japan festival
in uptown New Orleans today. Pictures to come if I'm not terribly
lazy.
Going to Cali in 10 days! I wish I could make it back up to the
northeast, too. Gosh, I'm such a loser. Please don't hate
me. I'm trying to realign myself.
But what does this mean? Who cares about college degrees or the
Decemberists or Japan fests? There are more important things that
I should be emerging myself in... I'm sure you can guess.
Interesting rants to come if I'm not (once again) so terribly lazy.
